What does a wheelchair evaluation entail?
A wheelchair evaluation will begin similar to a standard physical therapy or occupational therapy evaluation. PT/OT’s typically assess things like ROM, strength, joint mobility, tone/spasticity, sensation, and functional mobility. The evaluation will proceed to discuss the need for a wheelchair, which type, and the recommended components. Components include items such as specific seat backs or cushions, access method, headrests, and leg rests, powered items (i.e. seat elevator). An ATP will be present to facilitate the ordering process and recommendation of specific brands/items.
What is an ATP?
An ATP is an Assistive Technology Professional. ATPs are experts in assistive technology available to meet an individual’s needs. The ATP certification is provided by the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). Typically, ATPs work for Durable Medical Equipment (DME) supply companies and are responsible for the ordering, assembly, delivery, and maintenance of DME. Anne does have the ATP certification but continues to work clinically as a physical therapist. This certification indicates she has knowledge of assistive technology beyond the average physical or occupational therapist.
How do i get started?
The process for working with Anne will differ based on your needs. If you are interested in weekly treatment for Complex Rehab Needs, please call Anne at 775-393-9244 to discuss openings. If you are interested in a wheelchair evaluation and are in-network, please have your PCP/pediatrician fax an order for an “evaluation for mobility” to Anne at 775-201-0031. Anne will submit for prior authorization. When received, she will reach out for scheduling. If you are out-of-network, please call Anne to discuss options.
Is Cash pay/superbilling an option?
It depends. If you have FFS Medicaid- NV, Medi-Cal, or any Medicaid MCO, as a primary or secondary insurance cash pay is not an option. This is a federal law. Cash pay can be permitted in rare instances. If you do not have any type of Medicaid as a primary or secondary insurance, cash pay is an option if you are out-of-network and while I am waiting for credentialing. Please click here for cash pay rates.
Are you a doctor?
Myself, and all other physical therapy graduates since 2005, have clinical doctorates. We are Doctors of Physical Therapy, but we are not physicians also known as medical doctors (MDs/DOs). Other professions with clinical doctorates included veterinarians, pharmacists, dentists, audiologist, optometrists, and even some occupational therapists!
